They probably didn’t “hack” it, because MSN’s servers are actually pretty secure. What most likely happened is they guessed your password. Another possibility is that if you use the same password for every site, they could have recovered your password from some other Internet service and used it to log into your MSN account. For instance, if you use the “Forgot Password” feature, most sites send your password to the e-mail address you used to register. But if you forgot your e-mail password that’s not really an option–a “Forgot Password” link for an e-mail account usually requires you to answer a few challenge questions that only you are supposed to know the answers to. If you pass, it tells you your password. If an attacker is able to answer those questions, they can take over your e-mail account, then use the “Forgot Password” links on other sites to compromise those as well by intercepting the e-mails.
